Data Sovereignty webinar

22.10. klo 8:30 - 9:00

Welcome to Privaon’s “Data sovereignty” webinar on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026 at 8:30-9:00 GMT (UTC +1, Dublin time)!

Following strong interest in our first webinar, we are bringing our Data Sovereignty session back by popular demand — with an updated focus on the developments shaping the topic today and what organisations can do in practice.

We’ll start with a concise refresher on the fundamentals of data sovereignty, including what it means, why it matters, and how it differs from related concepts such as data residency and data localisation. We’ll then move quickly into the latest developments, looking at the changing regulatory, technological and geopolitical landscape and what these developments mean for organisations.

Importantly, this session will focus not only on why data sovereignty matters, but on what you can actually do about it. Whether your organisation is taking its first steps or already has a mature data sovereignty strategy, we’ll explore practical measures that can be scaled to your organisation’s needs — from foundational actions to more advanced strategic measures.

We’ll also look at how organisations can make better use of existing data protection documentation, contractual measures and risk mitigation practices to support their data sovereignty objectives, rather than treating sovereignty as an entirely separate compliance exercise.

And, of course, we’ll consider data sovereignty in the age of AI — including the questions organisations should be asking about where data, AI systems and supporting infrastructure are located, who has control over them, and what this means for privacy, security and organisational resilience.

In this webinar, we will explore:

  • The fundamentals of data sovereignty, including how it differs from data residency and data localisation, and why it is becoming increasingly important
  • Key regulatory, technological and geopolitical developments
  • Practical steps organisations can take toward greater data sovereignty, appropriate to their current position and level of maturity
  • How to leverage existing data protection documentation, contractual measures and risk assessments to address sovereignty risks
  • Data sovereignty considerations in the age of AI

Whether you attended our first webinar or are joining us for the first time, this session will give you a practical understanding of data sovereignty, an update on where the landscape is heading, and concrete ideas for what your organisation can do next.

The webinar is particularly well suited for data protection professionals, data protection officers, and others working with privacy or AI-related matters.

The specialists for this webinar are Senior Data Protection Specialist Gail Maunula (CIPP/E, CIPM) and Founding Partner and CTO Tomi Mikkonen (CIPT, CISM, CISSP). Please submit your questions regarding the webinar topic via the registration form.

This event is free of charge, but please remember to register with your work email address before the webinar begins.

Welcome!
