Privacy Engineering: Closing the gap between PbD and implementation

Privacy by Design (PbD) defines a number of principles that are useful for high-level target setting.

However, several studies have found that these principles are vague and leave lots of open questions. Processes, tools and practices are missing to transfer these principles into implementation.

Privacy engineering is the collection of processes, tools and practices that help to transfer PbD principles to implementation. If Privacy by Design provides the “what” to do, then privacy engineering provides the “how” to do it.
